GILGIT: Captain [Retired] Zafar Iqbal Awan has assumed charge in Gilgit – Baltistan [G-B] as Inspector General Police, replacing Saleem Bhatti.
In his first meeting on Friday at central police office [CPO] Gilgit, IGP met the staff and urged them to work for the betterment of public and the region.
“Police force is like a team and we have to work round-the-clock to purge the region of crime and the criminals,” said the IGP, who also served for two year in G-B while he was captain in Pakistan army.
The new IGP promised better serving conditions for G-B police, saying welfare of the police force will be given priority.
The new IGP was also given a detailed briefings ranging from geography of G-B to Chinese security. The briefing was made by DIG Operations Waqar Shoaib while senior official of G-B police including DIG Wasal Khan, AIG Special Branch Mirza Hasan, AIG Crimes Muhammad Jamil were also present.
Earlier in the day, the IGP was given a warm reception as he reached CPO.
