ISLAMABAD: Minister for Industries and Production Ghulam Murtaza Khan Jatoi on Friday said that his Ministry would help government of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) in installation of Fruit processing plants for creating job opportunities and alleviating poverty in the region.
“Ministry of Industries and its companies like Furniture Pakistan, James and jewelry and Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SEMEDA) would utilize their best efforts for Industrial development of G-B”, Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi stated this while talking to Governor Gilgit Baltistan, Mir. Ghazanfar Ali Khan here.
The Minister said “We will facilitate you in industrial sector especially James and jewelry, Furniture, installation of Fruit Pulps factories, opening of utility stores in the northern areas”. He said for the development of small and medium enterprises “our sub department, Aik Hunar Aik Nagar (AHAN) would expand its working to the northern areas focusing mainly on neglected sectors of hand-crafted”.
Ahan, he said was promoting their products to make them competitive in local and international markets, employment generation and increasing income in the informal rural markets, thus leading to rural poverty alleviation. The Governor on the occasion said that in Gilgit Baltistan, unemployment ratio was very high adding Tourism was the only industry. He said there was vital need of industries in GB in order to reduce un-employment in the region. -- Pakistan Observer
