GILGIT: Police on Tuesday seized arms and ammunition from houses in Bargo area in outskirts of Gilgit, preventing an attempt of terrorism in the city.
The weapons recovered were displayed later for media at Inspector General Police [IGP] office in the presence of senior journalists and police officials including the police chief Capt [R] Zafar Awan himself.
"There were houses that were raided by police on a tip off from intelligence agencies,” a senior official said during the display of the seized weapons.
The raid was led by ASI Mustafa and supervised by SSP Gilgit, he added.
Police said the weapons recovered including Hand grenades, and other powerful guns which the terrorists had planned to use in the city. "Timely action averted a possible terrorism bid in city," said IGP while talking to media at his office after the successful operation.
The IGP announced promotion for the ASI Mustafa who led the operation. The men however managed to escape police action as they weren't in their houses during the raid.
The police chief said the men behind the activity have been identified and will be arrested soon.
