GILGIT: Youth from various parts of Gilgit-Baltistan on Sunday held a protest demonstration in Gilgit, demanding constitutional rights for the region and due share in CPEC.
The demonstration attended by dozens of youths was held outside press club where speakers called for rights for a region that is out of mainstream politics for the past nearly seven decades.
“Give us our rights or forget about taxes,” said a student leader while addressing the gathering which simultaneously held in press clubs in Islamabad, karachi and other cities. “G-B should be declared 5th province of the country without any further delay.”
The activist said people of G-B are the main stakeholders but they aren’t taken on boards in project like china Pakistan economic corridor (CPEC).
The youth activists, holding placards and banners, demanded representation of G-B in forums like NFC award and parliament.
The rally was addressed by senior leader of Pakistan Peoples Party Iqbal Rasool. He flayed the government of PML-N for keeping the G-B deprived of benefits from various projects including CPEC. The youth activitis passed a resolution in the end, asking federal government to ensure rights for the people of G-B.
