GILGIT: Nearly 150 teachers appointed in the recent government on contract have been relieved of their duties in Gilgit-Baltistan [G-B].
The officials relieved of their job were hired on grade 14, said an official, referring to a letter issued from the education department in G-B.
According to officials, the firing of staff has been done to refill the posts through proper channel. “Majority of the teachers ousted were hired during the previous government flouting merit,” said the official, requesting anonymity as he wasn’t authorized to speak to media on behalf of the G-B government.
The posts will be refilled through public service commission or national testing service,’ he said on Saturday.
The sacking has been criticized by the opposition leader Shah Baig. “This is an injustice with the teachers,” said Baig in an official statement issued by his office on Saturday.
“Such acts will be suicidal for the chief minister,” read the statement.
