GILGIT: At least 14 persons were killed and 92 others injured in earthquake related incidents across Gilgit – Baltistan, said DG disaster management authority on Saturday.
Addressing media at Press Club, Asim Raza said the quake destroyed 157 houses and partially damaged 406 others across the region.
Raza said four people were killed in Ghizer, three in Diamer, one in Ghanche and five in Gilgit including the road accident at Kohistan.
The DG disaster management authority said of the 92 injured, two each were in Hunza and Nagar, 23 in Gilgit, 44 in Diamer, 20 in Ghizer and one in Skardu.
Raza said Ghizer valley was worst hit by the quake demolishing 80 houses followed by 60 in Diamer, 10 in Hunza, three in Gilgit and four in Nagar.
Raza said Rs0.6 million was paid to each family who lost their family members in the quake. “Of the 10 families we have paid Rs8400,000 as compensation,” Raza said, adding those compensation as per the policy was also paid to the injured.
He said the government was conducting a survey of the whole region to document and update the losses occurred in the quake that triggered landslides across the region blocking various roads.
As part of government’s response to the quake, Raza said food items, blankets and tents were provided in all districts immediately through deputy commissioners.
“We had authorized deputy commissioners of each to pick goods upto Rs.0.5m from utility stores to deliver it among the affected families.”
In the post-quake steps, 550 tents, 500 blankets, 500 sweaters, 200 packets of cooking oil, 200 carpets were distributed among people affected by the quake.
A team from geological survey of Pakistan has started conducting surveys in Nagar valley of G-B, said Raza. He said the survey will also be conducted in Kharmang district to assess the risk of losses in case of quakes.
