GILGIT: A deputy Superintendent police (DSP) and his subordinates allegedly flogged and tortured three officials of power department in Diamer valley's Gonar Farm for loadshedding.
DSP Amir Ullah, SHO Andaleen along with other constables broke into power department office late Monday and started beating us, said Sabdar Khan, a victim who also works as lineman in the department.
“I was dragged on road and hit on the face and body repeatedly,” he told reporters in the Hospital where he was under treatment.
The police threw them on the road while the two other employees were picked to lock them behind bars.
According to locals, those picked by the DSP were including Quaid Azam and Zaheer Abbas who were then brutally tortured in the police station.
Sabdar Khan said they were punished for a crime they never committed. “Loadsedding isn’t something we are responsible for. We cannot provide light if there is none.”
The president of Diamer Power Union Arshad Khan threatened to cut off power to the entire area if justice isn’t meted out to their colleagues. “We appeal high ups to take notice of this brutal act of police officials,” he said.
Meanwhile the power department union members staged a sit in outside civil court and demanded action against the culprits
According to an official in chief minister office, the SHO has been suspended on CM orders while an inquiry has been launched into the incident by deputy commission.
