GILGIT: Journalists on Monday decried slow speed of internet in Gilgit – Baltistan, asking authorities to improve the service or allow private companies.
“We are sick of slow internet speed in the town,” said Tariq Shah, president of Press Club, while addressing a protest demonstration held outside press club.
He said the journalists come to press club to discharge official duties but slow speed of net frustrate their aims, forcing them to leave the place with their jobs unfinished.
The journalists were carrying placards inscribed with slogans against the slow speed of internet which has hampered their performance.
“Most of the time the speed is so slow that we can’t upload a footage for consumption of our TV channels,” said Abdul Rahman, another journalist. “This is sheer embarrassing for us.”
The complaints made to the service providers – SCO - go unnoticed.
They urged government to upgrade system or allow private companies to start their services in the region. They also demanded extension of 3, 4 G facilities in Gilgit – Baltistan, which has been deprived of the facilty for reasons not known to public.
