GILGIT: Like elsewhere in the country, Independence Day was marked in Gilgit – Baltistan. The festivities started with fireworks, followed by parade and national songs on the 69th Independence Day.
The mid night firework and parade was attended by Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Hafeezur Rahman and the Commander of the FCNA. MLAs and dignitaries from all walks of life were also present in large numbers.
Tributes were also paid to the soldiers who are defending boundaries of the country on various fronts. Prayers were offered for the souls of the martyrs.
In the morning, more events have been planned in different parts of the region, in all district headquarters, at schools, community centers and other localities. Sports tournaments and cultural programmes were held in different parts of the Gilgit-Baltistan region.
In Rawalpindi’s Ayub National Park, a special festival was inaugurated by the Darakhshan Association for Special Persons, on Thursday. Special children from the association performed the national anthem and other colourful programmes. Isphanyar Bhandara, chief executive of Murree Brewery was the chief guest. Members of civil society, media and the public also attended the event in large number.
