GILGIT: In what appeared to be a ‘revolt’ against a forced conversion, a community elder accompanying PPP regional leaders at a press conference on Friday denied he decided to vote for the party.
“I support PPP morally but haven’t decided to vote for PPP candidate,” said Mutawali Khan, who heads Lon family, majority of whom recently threw their support behind PML-N chief Hafeez ur Rahman.
Mutawali Khan was one of the participants of press conference addressed by PPP leaders including Jamil Ahmed, Muhammad Musa and Sadia Danish on Friday in the Gilgit press club, claiming they had clear majority and were set to win the elections.
Ahmed said PML-N regional chief had lost his senses as people were with him and one of the proofs was presence of head of Lon family.
As Khan spoke out his heart, PPP Jamil Ahmed and Musa appeared uncomfortable as it was sheer negation of what they had claimed for – support from Lon family and public. A reporter of Outpost was taking notes carefully at it happened.
The unexpected move by Khan forced the PPP leaders to interfere and make an explanation on his behalf. “Khan is with us and has promised his vote for us,” said Musa and then Ahmed ..and then Khan himself as he couldn’t avoid a smile.
