GILGIT: The lone woman contesting elections from Gilgit GBLA 2 Parveen Ghazi has withdrawn in favour of PML-N regional chief Hafeez ur Rahman, strengthening latter’s position ahead of June 8 polls.
Ghazi also joined PML-N during a press conference held in Press Club on Friday. The conference was attended by her family, besides Hafeez ur Rahman and several other party leaders and supporters.
“I’m joining PML-N along with my family unconditionally,” she said. “There are hardships for a woman to contest polls but that’s not the reason behind my joining of PML-N.”
“I saw PML-N brought a change in the politics of the region which inspired me to join it,” he told Outpost.
Her decision to step down won appreciation from many particularly Rahman of PML-N. After running campaign for a month, she decided to withdraw in favour of Rahman and join PML-N.
“This is the change that will help PML-N win the polls.” Rahman hailed Ghazi for choosing to contest general elections and hoped her inclusion will be beneficial for women.
Before Parveen Ghazi, nearly a dozen senior politicans from various parties have defected to PML-N over the weeks.
