GILGIT: Gilgit police on Thursday handed over 23 cars, lifted from various parts of the country, to the owners.
The cars had been stolen from various parts of Khyber – Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Punjab and their FIRs had been registered in the respective police stations, said a police spokesman Mubarak Jan.
He said on the directives of IGP Zafar Iqbal Awan, traffic police scrutinized documents of 27 ‘suspected vehicles’ in the recent months. "It was found 23 of them had been stolen vehicles."
After verification, the concerned police stations were approached and intimated about the presence of stolen vehicles in G-B, said the spokesman, adding the cars were handed over by IGP to the owners and Punjab police, which accompanied them, after they reached Gilgit.
The IGP announced awards for the traffic police on the successful recovery of the cars.
