GILGIT: Dunya News on Thursday awarded cash prize and certificate to Khalid Hussain for extraordinary coverage of the unfortunate chopper crash at Naltar.
The cash prize of Rs50,000 and ‘certificate of recognition’ were presented to Hussain by executive editor, Mumtaz Gondal, in a simple ceremony at Gilgit Press Club.
“This is a token of acknowledgment of what Hussain has done for his TV channel in the most difficult conditions,” Gondal said, lauding performance of Hussain.
Hussain was among the reporters who broke the story and managed to get exclusive footage of the crash which left Norwegian envoy Leif H Larsen, Philippines Ambassador Domingo D Lucenario Jr, wives of Malaysian and Indonesian ambassadors, two pilots – Major Faisal and Major Altamash – as well as a crew member dead. Polish Ambassador Andrzej Ananiczolish, Dutch Ambassador Marcel de Vink and the Indonesian ambassador were injured.
“We are happy we have a good reporter in Gilgit – Baltistan,” said Gondal, who reached Gilgit earlier in the day from Lahore.
The journalists present on the occasion thanked Dunya TV for setting a trend which is expected to be followed by the rest of media houses.
“This is something that will motivate me to do even better in future,” Hussain told Outpost.
“I’m thankful to the management.”
