GILGIT: Police chief Capt (Retd) Zafar Iqbal Awan has said Gilgit – Baltistan police will leave no stone unturned in making the upcoming elections peaceful.
He said this while chairing a high level meeting held at Central Police Office Gilgit on Tuesday and was attended by all the DIGs, District SPs and AIGs.
“Police chief said that an election cell has been established at the Central Police Office with the task of monitoring the activities related with electioneering,” said a press release issued on Thursday.
“A control room will be connected with other control rooms in all districts.”
The inspector general of police [IGP] further said that steps would be taken for effective and timely receiving and disseminating of information related to the occasion by using wireless, land lines, mobile phones, walki talki sets and internet.
He said that no one would be allowed to enter any polling station without written permission of the election commission except the concerned voters.
The Police Chief directed the concerned Superintendents of police in all district to take effective measures to ensure peaceful elections. He directed installing CCTV Cameras on sensitive polling stations. In addition cancelation of leaves except for those in emergency was ordered to overcome deficiency of security personnel.
IGP Awan warned strict action without discrimination if police personnel found to be a part of any political, religious or ethnic procession or group.
He said that a flag march with other LEAs of region would be carried out before polling day in order to boost the confidence of the general public on the security apparatus.
