GILGIT: Gilgit – Baltistan [G-B] police chief Capt (R) Zafar Iqbal Awan lauded the role of Masajid Board in fostering exemplary peace between sects in G-B, which was previously infested with sectarian disharmony and mistrust.
Presiding the monthly meeting convened in the Central Police Office, IG Police Capt (R) Zafar Iqbal Awan said the role of the members is commendable and exemplary.
“Implementation on National Action Plan is being carried out without a slight hint of discrimination and the observance of code of conduct for inter faith harmony is positively going on,” a spokesman told Outpost on Saturday.
Speaking about the upcoming election the Police Chief praised the members of the Masajid Boards and said that with their cooperation and active role the upcoming elections would be held in peaceful atmosphere. He said that inter district postings of the Police Force would be carried out in order to ensure free and fair elections.
The Police Chief said that youth of the region would be given a chance to utilize their energies in the Police Youth Forum in order to establish a durable relationship with the general public. The Police Chief also praised the conciliatory role played by the members of the Masajid Board in patching up internecine rivalries in G-B and their constructive role in putting an end to deadly enmities in Sakwar Gilgit.
He further said that hectic efforts are under way to channelize a coordinated traffic system in G-B especially in Gilgit City where traffic jams have become order of the day.
Members of the Masajid Board expressed their satisfaction over the performance of the Police department and said that a marked improvement has been observed in police and rule of law is being implemented without any prejudice and bias.
They also emphasized the need to have a close watch over the proscribed organizations in the region.
The members of the Masajid Board assured IGP about their role to establish durable relations with the police department and other law enforcing agencies to bring prosperity, stability and inter-faith harmony in the region.
The Masajid Board members attended the meeting included Raja Nisar Wali, Syed Ahmed Ali Shah, Mutawali Khan, Wazir Muzafar Abbas, Jafar Ullah Khan, Abid Baig, Sunbul Shah, Syed Nizamuddin, Aslam Advocate, Moulana Maqsood, Hussain Ali Rana, Nisar Ahmad. From police who represented were DIG Farooq Azam, SSP Danishwar, SP Mansoor, SP Gilgit Muhammad Ishaq and SP Abdur Rahim.
