GILGIT: Two sisters in the Astore valley of Gilgit – Baltistan [G-B] gave birth to seven children this week.
Mrs Raqeeb, a resident of Pati pura village of Astore, delivered two sons and a daughter on Monday. The newborns are said to be alive.
“This was a big news in the town as all survived,” a resident said on Sunday.
Five days later, another sister also married to a local man Noshad Ali delivered four sons in district headquarter [DHQ] hospital on Saturday. However no one could survive primarily because of lack of facilities in the hospitals.
Two of the sons perished immediately after the birth while the remaining two died in Gilgit hospital after doctors in Astore DHQ hospital referred the case to Gilgit due to lack of facilities.
“We shifted the case to Gilgit in view of lack of facilities in Astore,” Dr Hameed at Astore DHQ hospital told Outpost. “However in the cause of death was also premature birth of the babies.”
