GILGIT: The latest move to amend governance order 2009 has triggered sharp reaction in the region with main opposition party threatening to call all-party conference against it.
Former chief minister G-B, Mehdi Shah on Thursday told reporters that the amendment was meant to hijack elections to be held in May.
Shah said his party would call an all-party conference in the region against the decision and added making Birjis Tahir governor would pave way for withdrawing powers delegated to G-B under governance order 2009 by his party. He said his party would not accept the decision.
"PML-N is against self rule in G-B thats why an outsider has been imposed," he told Outpost.
On Wednesday, Gilgit – Baltistan’s [G-B] Empowerment and Self Governance Order 2009 was amended giving additional charge to federal minister for G-B and Kashmir Affairs as governor G-B. The step was taken on advice from prime minister.
