GILGIT: Former opposition leader Janbaz Khan has his relative Basharat Ullah recommended for the caretaker setup, neutralizing the fierce opposition from various quarters and within the party in Gilgit – Baltistan [G-B].
Janbaz Khan had reportedly struck a deal with the federal minister KANA Birjis Tahir in a meeting - held in Islamabad last month to finalise an interim chief minister – to get his nominee inducted in the caretaker cabinet.
According to reports, Basharat Ullah is nephew of Janbaz Khan.
However the fierce opposition from politicians recently in Chilas, hometown of Janbaz, apparently frustrated his move. But the veteran politician, who defected to Muslim League of Musharraf in the past, did it finally.
In the Parliamentary Board meeting of PML-N in Islamabad, Basharat Ullah was reportedly recommended for the slot of an interim minister, thwarting the opposition.
The meeting chaired by PML-N Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq attended by Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Chaudhry Berjees Tahir, PML-N Secretary General Zafar Iqbal Jhagra and president PML-N Gilgit – Baltistan Hafeezur Rahman, among others.
