GILGIT: Immediate reforms in the departments of Water and Power and Works are inevitable if the government really wants to serve the public.
This was stated by Gilgit – Baltistan Chapter of International Human Rights Observer [IHRO] in a statement issued to Outpost.
“You can’t get your issues resolved unless you pay commission in both the departments,” read a press release issued by the watchdog. “Both the departments have assumed ‘commission agents’ role.”
According to IHRO, the departments are overstaffed but the work of maintenance is sublet to contractors, which not only causes loss to government but also delay in completion of the projects.
The watchdog suggested government to form committees comprising members from communities to supervise work.
